March Creative Madness

Updated: Mar 14, 2020

It's officially March 1st which means that our challenge is beginning! If you haven't taken the time to download our follow-along journal yet, you can do so here.

I'm calling this first section, FOUNDATIONS. Because that's usually a good place to start.

Today, I want you to think about your relationship with creativity. If you'd like to watch the video I created explaining what I've learned from experts about this and why I invited you to this challenge, click here.

One of the reasons we may not categorize ourselves as a creative type is because we are neglecting to SEE our creativity every day. So today, I invite you to recognize your creative side, and journal about it. Join me in the conversation on social media where I'll be sharing a little more of my heart. Follow on Instagram or Facebook

March 2nd, we'll be thinking about our environment. Have you ever wondered why we like to make our living spaces, work spaces, or expect our favorite restaurants and hangouts to be esthetically pleasing? I'll give you a hint: it has something to do with creativity. And we'll be exploring our personal esthetic a lot in the next 30 days. So, think about your environment today, and fill in your journal with the thoughts that come to you!

March 3rd, we'll be thinking about our dreams. Dreaming is talked about a lot when we're trying to be encouraging to others, but I think it is truly foundational relating to our creativity. What are the dreams that drive you every day? What's a way you can create a new approach to a dream you've neglected? Take the time to journal about that today.

March 4th, we'll be addressing our creativity scars. Brené Brown's data from her research shows that most people have what she calls creativity scars–a specific event in a child's life, mostly related to art, where they feel as if they cannot express themselves artistically because of disapproval. So let's revisit our childhood creativity today!

March 5th, we'll be exploring how our words matter, first by reading a poem or story. (You can also watch or listen to a new story if you so choose!) Examine how it made you feel. Why did you choose that piece of creative expression? Then, create a story of your own. Because yours matters ever so much.

March 6th, we'll conclude our foundations section with focusing on listening. Whether it's listening to another conversation or creating time in your schedule to listen to someone's story, focus on the art of listening today.

In the next section, we'll be focusing on our senses. Without relying on our senses, creating new things would be impossible. So, next week, I'll challenge us to dive a little deeper into the things that make us feel all the feels.

You can use this post as a reference for our first 6 days as we journal, or follow along on social media for our video chats. My theory is that as you start to pay attention to your creativity, you will create more than you ever thought you would! So, as inspiration hits, please share your posts with the hashtag #marchcreativemadness and tag me on Facebook or Instagram so I can follow along!

To mad creativity, friend! Let's do this.
